Garbage Disposal Freshening Pods
Keep your garbage disposal fresh and clean with these fizzing cleaning pods. Eliminates odors and cleans blades.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Baking soda
- 1/2 cup Salt (Coarse salt works best)
- 1 tablespoon Liquid dish soap
- 20 drops Lemon essential oil
- As needed Water (Just enough to make it hold together)
Why This Recipe Works
The baking soda deodorizes and provides fizzing action when activated by water. Coarse salt acts as an abrasive to scrub the disposal blades and chamber. Lemon oil cuts grease and leaves a fresh citrus scent. The pod format makes them convenient to use regularly.
Instructions
-
Mix dry ingredients: Combine baking soda and salt in a bowl.
-
Add wet ingredients: Add dish soap and essential oil. Mix well.
-
Add water slowly: Add just enough water to make the mixture clump together when pressed, like wet sand. Don’t add too much.
-
Form pods: Press mixture firmly into ice cube trays or silicone molds.
-
Let dry: Allow to dry completely for 24-48 hours.
-
Pop out and store: Remove from molds and store in an airtight container.
-
To use: Drop one pod into the disposal, run cold water, and turn on the disposal for 30 seconds.
Tips & Variations
- Add citrus zest: Mix in dried lemon or orange zest for extra freshness.
- Ice cube boost: After using a pod, add ice cubes to help clean the blades.
- Weekly use: Use once a week to prevent odor buildup.
- Follow with citrus: Run citrus peels through after the pod for extra freshness.
Safety Notes
- Always run water: Run water before, during, and after using the disposal.
- Don’t reach in: Never put hands in the disposal, even when off.
- Let pods dry completely: Wet pods will fizz prematurely and lose effectiveness.
- Use cold water: Hot water can melt fats and cause buildup; cold water solidifies them for grinding.
Storage
Store in an airtight container in a dry place. Keep near the sink for convenient use. Last 6 months.
